Ben Hywel-Davies

Music Composer // Sound Designer

I am a young composer, orchestrator and sound designer with a First Class BA (Hons) in Film Music Composition from Leeds Conservatoire. I am currently employed as a Runner and Trainee Transfer Engineer at Jungle Studios, a sound design and audio post production facility in London.

The multiple projects I have worked on have allowed me to experiment and compose in a number of different genres from light animation to dramatic crime dramas, and from western to romance.

My music has been inspired from being classically trained on the clarinet (ARSM diploma), piano, accordion and guitar. I like to include live instruments within my scores, which I record from my home studio.

In addition to my training in acoustic instrumentation, I have wired and programmed my own synthesizers using various software and hardware (Reason, Massive, FM8, Absynth, Kontour, Razor, Monark) to create a diverse sound which gives my scores a more unique tone.

I hope you enjoy listening to my work and please do not hesitate to get in touch if you would like to discuss any projects.

'Ben is an extremely talented composer with so much versatility in his style, coupled with a strong understanding of narrative film which enables him to create powerful pieces of music.

His work on my recent short film was outstanding. After several conversations about the story and the tone of the film, he created both a terrifying and moving score which ultimately brought the film to life and would not have been anywhere near as good without it. Ben is not only hardworking but is also an extremely friendly individual who will always find the time to discuss ideas. I would highly recommend Ben to anyone looking for a composer for their film'.

Peter Banks, Film Director

'As a team we were incredibly happy with the final music product, as we believe that Ben produced a score that not only fit the animation perfectly, but really helped push the mood of the scenes. In several showings we've had, the music has been something people have positively commented on!

Ben was a pleasure to work with and always came back with revisions quickly and efficiently. The flow between each section was fluid and Ben adhered to the animatic exceptionally well.

Again, thank you, Ben, very much for collaborating with us on this project!'
